Ocelots are beautifully spotted cats primarily found in South Texas. It is estimated that there are only 50 ocelots left in our area due to loss of habitat. The Laguna Madre Wildlife Refuge will be kicking off “Ocelot Conservation Day” dedicated to this endangered animal with the Ocelot Soiree, an intimate evening offering the opportunity to meet an ocelot. This event will feature a private ocelot show, an art auction, never before seen game camera photos, and much more. Casa Mariposa on South Padre Island will be hosting the soiree Friday, March 6th from 6:00pm – 9:00 pm. For ticket information please contact 956-832-3905.
“Ocelot Conservation Day” will take place from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday, March 7th at the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville. This event will feature live ocelot shows throughout the day as well as events for the children to include face painting, ocelot mask making, and magnets. Information tables will be placed throughout the event with ocelot conservation information. This event will be free with zoo admission.
Please make an effort to attend these events and make a contribution towards ocelot conservation efforts.
