South Padre Island will be hosting the first annual Cyclovia this Saturday, turning Padre Boulevard into a car-free and care-free environment for families to enjoy. Padre Boulevard will be closed to all motorized traffic from Bahama Street to Capricorn Drive for this family and pet friendly event offering a safe place to bike, run, and play together. Throughout the route’s festival like atmosphere are tons of free outdoor games and activities for kids of all ages to include tai chi and jiu jitsu, bouncing stations, hop scotch, watermelon seed spitting contests, a rock climbing wall, and live music. Pelican West will be preforming at the main stage in front of City Hall and Michael Laferty on the stage in front of Padre Rita Grill.
Cyclovias, originated in Bogota, Columbia over 40 years ago, are ever growing in popularity and are held in cities around the world offering a place for the community to come together and enjoy the outdoors with their neighbors and local businesses.
